Flood preparations along the Fraser River (June 2007, New Westminster, BC)

Recent Research

We have employed our research approach to examine the societal significance of infrastructure failure interdependencies (IFIs) related to power outages. This research has focused on two recent North American disasters: the 1998 Ice Storm and the 2003 Northeastern Blackout.

This section summarizes our research on these two events. Each summary provides the following information: 1) a brief description of the disaster; 2) an overview of our data collection and validation methods; and 3) a discussion of the infrastructure sectors that were most vulnerable to the IFIs triggered by the event.
